Colorado

About 30 miles NE of Taos was a whole village of off-the-grid homes. Lots of berm
homes with solar panels and all facing south. All of the designs were flights of fancy
by their owners. Very fascinating.
A view north into the San Juan Mountains of southern Colorado taken from
10,535 feet - a personal motorhome record! Quite spectacular. Little did we know
that we still had higher elevations to go.

Pulling into Taos on Kit Carson Avenue.
WE LOVE TAOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The base area of the Taos ski area. The Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. At 650' high is the 5th highest bridge in the US. The Rio Grande Gorge near Taos, NM.

Ft Worth..then Oklahoma

Ft. Worth
OK, Texas has some redeeming factors besides having the Shellenbergers there. Ft. Worth was a nice city. A lot of things about Will Rogers.
We crossed the Red River to get to Oklahoma, just for another state!!!

Shellenbergers

We visited Larry and Noka but were having so much fun that I forgot to take a picture of all of us. This is their house in Ft. Worth. It was so nice seeing them again.

More Texas

The sky was bright yellow and red at night. Probably from the heat. Extreme in our minds.
Steve working at Hamcom.

Texas sucks, so far!!!

Texas is hot and humid. Woke up yesterday at 6am and it was 82 already and the humidity very high. Only got hotter and more humid from there. The good news is that we're filling
in some states!
Then...
Tornado alert!! Sirens and annoucements to "take cover" !! It was pretty windy and wet there for about an hour. We shared cover in the basement of the convention center with 6 other RVer hams for a couple of hours. Then....
It's been raining hard with lots of very loud thunder and lightning all night!!!
No sleep .... Poor Maddie, our cat.
Guess where we are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This kind of weather is real localized and a common occurence. We'll be glad to get back to the Pacific NW.

Arkansas

We spent the night at the Hope Arkansas fair grounds. It was a nice place and there was a baseball game just outside our window.

The only picture we took in Arkansas was of Bill Clinton's house. Where he lived as a child.

A little white house...but he moved to "the big white house" later.
We're pretty "whimpy" with this humid and hot weather.

Our Experiences so far................

Steve has had BBQ ribs in just about every state and still isn't tired of them. The best may be in Memphis at Marlowes on Elvis Presley Blvd...close to our RV park. I don't think he's had any that wasn't to his liking tho. (That sounds kinda "southern"...we're into this drawl)
We've had Walleye in Ohio, Catfish in alot of states...and loved 'em.
We even tried fried pickles in Nashville. Sounds awful, huh? They are sooooo good!!! You eat them like nachos...with ranch chipotle. Yum!!!!
They're breaded with some spicy stuff. Notice that food tops the list of experiences.

We think Tennessee has the most churches. Even out in the wilderness there seem to be churches everywhere. We saw more of them then we saw houses!!! (mostly Baptist)
Now Arkansas has the biggest most oppulent churches. They're beautiful buildings and huge!!!

What's with all the hot humid weather????

We notice the states that have motorcycle helmet laws and the ones that don't.
For example, in Tennessee if you pass a safety test, you don't have to wear a helmet. What????????????
